Printer Issues
Use this page when the printer is not detected, won’t print, uses the wrong paper size, or has slow or stuck prints.
Printer not detected
- Check connections: USB cable firmly connected; printer powered on.
- Windows: In Settings or Device Manager, confirm the printer appears and has no warning.
- Driver: Install or reinstall the manufacturer’s driver; set as default if required by the app.
- Restart: Restart the printer and PC, then open the app again.
Printer detected but won’t print
- Run a test print from Windows (Settings → Printers → your printer) to rule out driver or queue issues.
- Confirm the correct printer is selected in the app.
- Check that the print queue is not paused or stuck; clear failed jobs if needed.
- Windows printer settings that matter: default printer, paper size, and layout (orientation, scaling).
Wrong paper size / wrong layout
- In Windows printer preferences (or the printer’s own settings), set the correct paper size to match the physical paper.
- Ensure the project frame/layout in the dashboard matches the paper size (e.g. 4x6, 2x6).
- If the app has a print settings screen, verify paper size there.
Slow prints / stuck queue
- Queue: Open Windows print queue and cancel stuck or failed jobs; then retry from the app.
- Network printers: If using a network printer, ensure the connection is stable; local USB is often more reliable for booth use.
- Driver: Update or reinstall the driver; avoid generic “Microsoft Print to PDF” or unsupported drivers for photo output.
Windows printer settings that matter
- Default printer — The app usually uses the default Windows printer; set the correct one as default.
- Paper size — Must match the paper in the tray and the project’s output size.
- Quality / paper type — Use photo quality and correct paper type (glossy, matte) for best output.
Driver reset
- In Windows, remove the printer from Devices and Printers (or Settings).
- Unplug the printer, then reinstall the driver and add the printer again.
- Set default and test from Windows (e.g. print a test page) before using the app.
Expected result
Printer is detected, paper size is correct, and output quality is acceptable. For cables and power best practices, see Booth Readiness.
