Dreambooth Documentation

Hardware Overview

Dreambooth runs on any Windows PC that meets the device requirements and supports up to 2 cameras plus 3 printers in parallel. DSLR/mirrorless cameras connect over WebUSB via web-gphoto2; printers use any Windows-installed driver with flexible paper sizes (A3, A4, 4R, 2R, strip cuts, and custom dimensions).

What Dreambooth Supports

  • Up to 2 cameras running simultaneously (DSLR/mirrorless via web-gphoto2 WebUSB, plus standard webcams)
  • Up to 3 printers running in parallel, each with independent paper size, DPI, orientation, and margins
  • All common photobooth paper sizes: A3, A4, A4 newspaper, 4R (4×6), 2R (2×3), strip cuts, and any custom size your printer driver reports
  • Three capture modes: Classic, Frame, and Self-photo (video)
  • Auto power on/off via smart plugs combined with bundled Windows power-plan scripts and a built-in screen saver
  • Runs on any modern OS — Windows is the heavyweight, but iPadOS, Android, and any Chromium kiosk browser also work. See Operating System Support for the cross-platform matrix.

Pick the Right Hardware

  1. Choose your camera. See Recommended Cameras — Canon is the safest pick; Nikon works well with a few caveats; Fujifilm is currently not recommended for production.

  2. Choose your printer. See Recommended Printers — DNP DS-RX1 is the default; we list the most common photobooth printers and how to run multiple printers (or one printer with two configs) in parallel.

  3. Decide your paper sizes. See Paper Sizes — match paper to mode (e.g. 4R for strips, A4 for newspaper layouts).

  4. Plan power and automation. See Power & Automation — smart plugs, stabilizers, optional smart CCTV, and Windows power-plan scripts shipped in the app.

  5. Picking a non-Windows platform? See Operating System Support for the iPadOS / Android / kiosk-browser matrix and the silent-print + DSLR-tethering workarounds each one needs.
